Walk For A Cause, Will You Join Me?

Filed under: health — juliana @ 10:43 am

I certainly don’t mean walking just to lose weight. But it can also be for that reason. So why not join the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk and walk for a greater reason other than to be healthy and shed off some extra pounds!

The Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk® is the nation’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer care, support and research – and it calls on volunteers of all ages to become champions in the fight against Alzheimer’s. There are walks in more than 600 communities. A typical Memory Walk is a 2-3 mile walk held on a weekend morning in the fall. By teaming up with the Alzheimer’s Association, you can walk with a purpose – and move us closer to a world without Alzheimer’s. Together, we can MOVE a nation.

Yes, I myself started my walking regimen a month ago, and I have been consistently doing 1 mile. It feels good to be fit and trim, and it certainly would be a better feeling being a part of a group walking for a very noble cause. The 2 mile walk is not hard to accomplish as I plan to increase my pace and walk longer. I certainly have done enough of my 1 mile walk already and it’s about time to up the ante and go farther. This will enable me to get primed up and join the Memory Walk 2008 at the Riverside Park here in New York City on October 26, 2008.

The fight against Alzheimer’s is everyone’s business. We are the next generation, and let’s make it our responsibility to become champions in the fight against this disease. Help me raise awareness and funds for this very worthy cause. Let us walk together and move closer to the realization of a big goal: a world free from Alzheimer’s.

Fear Not

Filed under: health — juliana @ 1:46 pm

I have been hypertensive for so many years, and have been on medication since. So far, my blood pressure has been well maintained, thanks to my good doctor who has been monitoring my condition well. As of my latest periodic check-up, he was not too please with my weight gain and he is adamant I have to shed them off. I totally agree with him because I’m well aware that I’m at a very high risk to contracting heart disease. I’ve heard so many cases when people have to go through surgery to unclog arteries. I certainly would not want to go through that. It’s enough for me to be considered high risk because I’m hypertensive. That is the reason why I would do anything to comply to my doctor’s order.

It scares me to no end when I chanced upon an article from Artery Health Institute detailing the atherosclerosis process or in layman’s term the hardening of the arteries. The process is rather complicated for someone like me to understand in depth, but it is good to know that  EDTA chelation can be done.  EDTA by the way, is an arterial cleansing agent that aids in effectively removing plaque, cholesterol and heavy metals that impedes and restricts blood flow and oxygen to our blood vessels.  The chelation process is comprehensive, as EDTA clears the bloodstream of heavy metals by seeking them out and binding to them. The body then flushes out the EDTA, taking the metals along with it. The therapy can either be intravenous or EDTA oral chelation, whichever one prefers. They both work to dissolve the artherosclerotic plaque and other mineral deposits within the cardiovascular system hence, this therapy has been compared to a “liquid plumber.”

Now, are you as scared as I am?  You shouldn’t be, as I’m no longer that fearful. I know that EDTA chelation is there, a completely safe and natural therapy,  and I am now convinced I have total control of my health. Above all,  I can get miracle results for just pennies a day. Would that be a real miracle if I can finally say goodbye to Nifedipine?

Early Appointment

Filed under: health — juliana @ 12:20 am

If I don’t want to be dragged out of bed later, I better head to bed. The deal is, we have an early dental appointment today at 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. respectively. I was desperate to book and just take this appointments for us, because there was no spots available anymore for the rest of the summer. Our dentist is going away  for a month for his annual vacation, therefore, there’s not much days left.

I wonder how I’ll manage. I’m not so used to getting up early. And because this dentist is so in demand, it’s like “mortal sin” if you’re late. Gotta go.

Eyes Are Clear For Now

Filed under: health — juliana @ 7:32 pm

The day went so fast. We we’re up early because I had an appointment with my Ophthalmologist for a follow-up check. Per my visit in September last year, I was advised to go back within six months. Of course, I didn’t go six months after.

The appointment was supposed to be at 2:30, and we were there five minutes before the appointment. As expected, I didn’t see the doctor till 4:00 p.m. Where did the day go? We didn’t even drive because parking is anticipated to be scarce, as there is no dedicated parking area at the doctor’s office. We took the bus, a mere ten minutes ride. It was such a lovely day today, that we opted to walk back home right by the boardwalk on the beach. The beach was moderately crowded, and from the looks of it, it will definitely be more crowded tomorrow and Monday, as the weather is only going to be a lot better in the next two days. If the weathermen are predicting the weather right, it will be 80 degrees on Monday.

Anyway, my eyes are clear for now… I mean, clear of possible problems haha. I don’t see how it can become clearer, as I have been visually impaired for a long time. I will be back as usual next year.

Will The Tooth Fairy Visit Us Tonight?

Filed under: health, musings — juliana @ 10:59 pm

Hahaha… My husband went ahead with the scheduled appointment with the oral surgeon. Officially, he has a tooth missing as a result of grinding while sleeping. I wrote about it here, a week ago.

I’m glad it went well, although it took a little more than an hour to take everything out. As soon as we got home, as expected he’s been sleeping intermittently. Officially, his food tripping is put to a halt for 48 hours, as he is on soft food diet. What did he have for dinner? Two bowls of crab soup and a big slice of ripe mango. He had fruit flavored gelatin two hours after the procedure. He keeps telling me that he’s hungry. What do I expect from a man who loves food and loves to eat.

I hope the tooth fairy will visit tonight, so that he will wake up a little richer hahaha. Who knows, she might be very generous.

Acting Up

Filed under: health, musings — juliana @ 11:44 pm

My allergy got worse today. Not even with my regular dose of Zyrtec did the job, as I was outside for a long time. On days like today, my sneezing was non stop and it really took a lot of my energy. The only good thing was, at least my hives are under control.

I can very well say, I’m a Zyrtec addict because my allergies just won’t go away. I have hives year round. If I halt my Zyrtec intake, everything itches and welts are formed all over my body. It’s really bad. I think I’m just allergic to the air here in New York City, which means I won’t be allergy free unless we move out of here. When?????

How The Day Turned Out

Filed under: daily chatter, health — juliana @ 11:06 pm

As I wrote in the morning here, I woke up early, as the husband had an early dental appointment. I thought it was gonna be an easy, relaxing day but I was wrong. Two hours after his scheduled appointment, he called to tell me he was going to pick me up from home so I can go with him to an Endodontist referred to him by our dentist. It turned out, he didn’t want to drive anymore, because he was starting to imagine the worse.

It turned out, that one of his tooth got a vertical fracture, and our dentist wants him to immediately see an Endodontist to determine if the tooth can be saved or not. The fracture could have been brought about by grinding when sleeping or biting into hard food. He is known to grind while asleep that’s why he’s been wearing a custom made mouth guard when he sleeps. So, not even the mouth guard saved the tooth after all.

To make the long story short, we drove to the Dyker Heights area of Brooklyn, he was taken in even with a short notice. We stayed a good two hours. The tooth can’t be saved, so he has to go to an oral surgeon for tooth extraction next week, appointment to be made by me, of course on Monday.

We went for brunch at El Greco and was home at about 3:00 p.m. It was indeed a long day, for someone like me who’s used to starting the day late on Saturdays.

Why Health Care Plans Vary

Filed under: health — juliana @ 10:39 am

Between October to November every year, my husband and I weave through documents to review which health care plan to enroll in for the next year. I’m often baffled why there are changes in the plan every year even if we are enrolling with the same health care company. It’s like the case of the same health care company, different plans every year.

When I stumbled upon the online portal of HealthLeaders-InterStudy, that’s when I realized that health care plans change because there are health plan trends which every business in health care can avail of from HomeHealthLeaders-InterStudy.com. Their health plan databases and reports comes with an analysis that covers all types of medical care plans, which gives health care companies a good view of the market and help them make intelligent decisions. This will further help market their services properly to their targeted areas. With analysts and researches in their employ that have been in the health care market for a long time, trust that every data is up-to-date and very user friendly.

Now, I have a better understanding why not every health care plan are the same. It varies based on many factors. What an informative website! If I was in the health care business, I would for sure get their services.

Hypertropin In Focus

Filed under: health — juliana @ 1:33 am

Human Growth Hormone has been in the spotlight lately here in the US. This is largely due to accusations hurled at high profile sportsmen of their use and abuse of such. There’s nothing bad about using human growth hormone for as long as it’s taken as intended, as HGH is actually a naturally occurring peptide which is produced by the human pituitary gland. It acts as a messenger to aid someone’s growth and development. In adults, it helps regulates metabolism and keep good body composition.

That being said, Hypertropin has an amino acid that is in likeness to natural human growth hormone. In it’s injectable form when used, acts as supplement to elevate someone’s HGH and IGF - 1 levels if they are deficient. It is a known fact that some individuals are unable to naturally produce sufficient human growth hormone thus, Hypertropin fills in the gap. Human growth hormone, has been actually considered as miracle drug for a lot of conditions which ranges from anti-aging remedy to treatment of osteoporosis and have been auspiciously administered to both young and old alike.

Is Lasik For Me?

Filed under: health — juliana @ 6:30 pm

It’s been years that I’ve been contemplating on getting lasik surgery. As you very well know, I’ve been visually impaired for so many years, in fact my Ophthalmologist has been convincing me to have the surgery, as he thinks I’m a good candidate. A close friend of ours went ahead with her surgery, and have been raving about her lifestyle change. It must be liberating, having to not wear eyeglasses or contact lenses again.

I’m very well aware that there can be Lasik complications, but as per preliminary results gathered from the USAEyes Competence Opinion Relative to Expectation (CORE) patient survey provided to FDA panel on April 25th, it indicated that Lasik is safe, predictable though not always perfect. With this in mind, I think I am revisiting the idea. In fact, my husband is all for it. He strongly believes in the procedure as many have taken the route already, but as he said I should do my research and ensure I get the services of a certified Lasik surgeon.

I only have one pair of eyes. A botched surgery won’t be easy to correct. But for as long as I do my homework and get more information at USAEyes.org, I think I’ll be on my way to a clear, vivid vision sans specs.
