Why I’m Loving My Short Hair

Sporting my hair long for thirteen years naturally required more time and more money on care and maintenance. What’s more, if you have yours processed (like mine), the hair takes a lot of abuse and consequently requires more tender loving care.

Permanent color, highlights, lowlights, and all the other processes that a woman desires is tantamount to hair damage. Luckily, I was not a real slave (only mildly *lol*) to such thus, through the years the texture of my hair was not as bad. At the most, I get my hair colored twice a year currently, but this was not the case a year ago before I took the plunge and tried something unconventional.

Nigelle ER was a constant in my shower. When I discovered this treatment, I stopped using the conventional conditioner. I still used conventional shampoos but because I was determined to keep the texture of my hair even with the hair getting processed, Nigelle ER was my savior despite the hefty price(for a conditioner) at $60. My long, stick straight hair was smooth and shiny, just the way I wanted it to be.

All that changed when the skeptic in me took the plunge a year ago, and I decided to try WEN (by Chaz Dean) – the  shampoo that don’t lather. It felt odd the first time I used it but surprisingly, I wound up liking it after I rinsed my hair on that first use.

I knew I was hooked. The promise of not having to color my hair as often is music to my ears. It was just a matter of time, and I knew that getting the appointment with my colorist every three months will come to an end. The idea of this shampoo not producing any lather means it is not stripping your hair’s natural oil hence, the color you painstakingly had your colorist apply will not fade as easily. Without detergent and harsh chemicals, your locks remains shiny, stronger and more manageable.

WEN delivered and it continues to deliver. Now, I only get my hair colored every six months, and have my roots touched up every three months. I’m not only saving time, I’m saving money!

With my hair now shorter, I stand to save more time and money, because I used to consume  this 32 oz. bottle in one and a half month with my long hair. From using 48 pumps per washing, I now only use 32 pumps (8 pumps per section). Considering that the price of WEN is not exactly that cheap (this size at $52), this will save me money in the long run, as I no longer have to buy a separate conditioner too. But over and above the savings, WEN is saving my hair!

I am not in any way connected with Nigelle ER and WEN and I received no benefit or remuneration of ANY KIND for writing about these products on this blog.

oks lang ang endorsement dito. I’m a Procter & Gamble devotee, and any product that they make,I won’t mind it getting any mileage here. ex-P & G’er ako, besides husband loves P&G stocks. at may asungot ka rin diyan? hahaha kaya ako natagalan magpa-kalbo kasi dito may asungot din.

  • [...] that I’m not too happy with the cut. I’m enjoying the freedom, the lightness and the savings from both time and cost of maintenance but I’m more than glad that I didn’t go shorter than I did because after my first [...]

  • I also used Wen after I had my hair rebonded. Actually, I had my hair rebonded in the Phils. last September and I started using Wen as soon as I arrived back in the States. My husband had given me this gift for Valentine’s but decided to wait for me to come home instead. After just one use, I felt a big difference to the texture of my rebonded hair….it feels silkier and shinier. Though it costs a little bit steep for a shampoo , I will still buy this because it really makes a big difference for rebonded hair.
