“The Journey So Far”

We were delighted that we had the chance to see Lea Salonga at the Carlyle Hotel last Saturday night. Dubbed as “The Journey So Far” – it is her autobiographical  show which embraced Rodgers and Hammerstein ballads, Disney songs, and the anthems of Schönberg and Boublil. The venue: Café Carlyle – touted as New York City’s bastion of classic cabaret entertainment with its distinguished and glamorous setting was the perfect intimate venue. My husband, a self-confessed Lea Salonga fan ever since he saw her on Miss Saigon (on Broadway), has been waiting for his chance to see her perform on a smaller venue.

It was Standing-Room-Only. We were seated inches away, directly facing  the platform where she performed with the functional quartet backup. I didn’t have the heart to take pictures with the flash of my camera thus, I made do with no-flash pics. They came out decent enough, I think. See the piano behind us? She performed just in front of the piano. When her engagement is over, I will upload a video. I figured, I can settle for a video in exchange of nicer photos.

She performed two Tagalog songs: one of them was the opening song : “Salamat, Salamat Musika,” and “Waray Waray.” The  few Filipino audience were  delighted right off the bat. Lea wowed her audience throughout the one hour performance sans idiot board; it was just like a one woman show. Her voice hasn’t changed a bit. She still has “it.” Accompanied by a single guitar, I really liked her low-key  rendition of ” Someone To Watch Over Me.” Indeed it was a night of good music in an intimate space!

    @ Jenn
oh yes, I suddenly had perfect vision hehe. it was really up close kaya I was ashamed to blind her with the flash of my camera. btw, the video is just a snippet ha.

    @ Recel
there you are, another Lea fan. pwede kayong magsama ng hubby ko.

    @ Laarni Lopez
I think her CATS performance is only in Manila; therefore, I won’t be able to see it unless I fly back home sa Pinas hehe.

  • The classy ambiance, the elegance of Lea Salonga plus delightful chef prepared dishes… it sure was a night of moonlight and roses!

    You are a a lovely couple, J!

  • You’re lucky to have been seated so close to where she performed, Sis. Ang galing ni Lea! She’s one of the world class Filipino performers that Filipinos are so proud to have. Can’t wait for the video, Sis!

My Prince is a Regine Velasquez fanatic but he is also mesmerized by Lea’s powerful and melodious voice. Sobra pa sa Pinoy kung makakolekta ng Filipino music. LOL!

  • wow nice naman. idol ko si lea salonga. i wish i was there watching her

    @ Lainy
we booked the VIP seats way in advance and there could not have been a better seat in the house. we saw her up close from head to toe. yung video snippet lang ha but I thought of taking it when I was kind of getting frustrated not getting a more decent shot because I didn’t want to blind her with the flash of my cam.

I like Regine Velasquez too. the husband is not familiar with her kasi he has not seen her perform ever. even with our GMA TV subscription, he seldom tunes in, parang ako hindi rin masyadong mahilig manood ng telly. of course, pag sports ibang story na yun hehe.

  • Hi Tuks! Long time no see! I thought I left a comment here, hindi pa pala. I get the error kasi with the code tapos nawawala yung nobelang na type ko so now I copy before I hit the submit just in case.

Anyway…it’s been lovely here the last several days, except yesterday PM…but we were able to spend some time out in the morning so ok na yun.

Nakuha nyo ba yung resulta ng tests ni F? I hope it’s all good….

    Enjoy your evening..kahit maulan.

    @ Tuks

I wonder what’s up with those errors. As you know, wiz ko naman alam whatever that is hehe. Sorry na lang at copy and paste ka pag nagkataon.

Oo nga, at kainggit ang weather ninyo diyan. Rainy pa rin dito hanggang bukas daw. As usual, malamig pa rin.

Wala pa lahat ng results kaya kabado pa rin. We’re hoping na ok lahat. Thanks for asking.
