I had my first ever cell phone in 1990. It was one of those humongous Motorola phones (Dyna TAC) that were chunkier and definitely larger than a microphone, not to mention that it was also heavy. In the Philippines, the only company that offered cell phone plans then was Piltel, no prepaid cards; they only offered plans wherein you get charged per minute for every extra minutes used in excess of your plan. Two years after, I switched to a sleeker unit but it was still big, the only difference is it was a bit lighter (Motorola International). Then, came the Motorola Micro TAC circa 1992.
Cell phones have evolved. They have become more handy and definitely more affordable except of course if you are going for units that come loaded with bells and whistles. Almost every person in the whole wide world now use cell phones. We are connected wherever we are, at any time of day and or night. We feel different when we don’t have our cell phones with us, as our units are now our constant companion.
I felt helpless and insecure when I didn’t have my cell phone with me for the past two days while I was out of the house. Not that I forgot to bring it with me nor I misplaced it. My husband had to bring it to work because his cell phone went kaput. Yes, the 10 months old LG Dare’s touch pad stopped working and his unit was already deemed useless. I brought the unit to have the software reloaded at the nearest Verizon Wireless center as per suggestion of the LG tech support personnel with the assumption that this will solve the problem. No. It was not, it’s the touch pad.
I was already bracing myself to hear that we have to send it to the manufacturer for repair, as it is still covered with the 1 year warranty, but I was pleasantly surprised to hear that Verizon will replace the unit for free. In fact, I brought the replacement home with me. I was smiling ear to ear and felt relieved that I was not driving back without a cell phone. I felt good, and secure. Thus, before I finally took the trek home, I felt I needed a boost. This time, not a caffeine boost, but a smoothie boost (lol). It’s a healthier alternative sans sugar and caffeine. The only set back was I was shocked to get charged $ 6.50 for a Large Smoothie. I must have picked a real natural power booster smoothie.

With those pics you’ve presented Sis, I remember my father owning the same one in your third pic.
It feels good to be back here, Sis! I’ve missed a lot of your posts. I will try to keep up as long as my schedule permits.
May you enjoy your weekend in grand style!
@ Lainy
they are antiques. It was kind of awkward lugging around the big one(1st pic). The third photo same as your father’s was a big improvement already.
take it easy and may you have a restful weekend!
Hahaha…I tried to stay away from cellphones as long as I could kasi I saw how helpless my friends felt pag wala cellphones nila. The only reason I got one was when my father got sick and I wanted to be ‘connected’ just in case….not the best reason to have a CP but it started my love affair with CP.
I don’t have CP now kasi asa bahay lang ako. I got me a prepaid one when I went to MD for a conference a few years ago. Yun lang. I still have the unit but it’s not hooked up now so it’s just gathering dust somewhere…hehe.
How’s your Saberday?

dati na akong addict sa cell phones since I came to know of its existence haha. and it was such an expensive addiction(Piltel only offered monthly plans) just because I wanted to be connected kahit nasaan ako. kasama pa nga niya beeper eh. my friends who didn’t have cell phones can conveniently beep me and I called them back sa landlines nila. that’s why even if I’m just home all day, may cell phone pa rin ako, addict nga kasi. I feel insecure once I’m out of the house and I don’t have it. I don’t text, and that has always been…. kahit may QWERTY keyboard pa cell phone ko, naninigas mga daliri ko hahaha.
