You Reap What You Sow

This has been proven once again very recently at the untimely demise of my Dad. He was a politician who didn’t make politics his bread and butter. Rather, he had a full time job while in politics and at the same time he managed our hog farm and a public transportation business all at the same time. He was our sole breadwinner as my Mom was a full time housewife. I had a happy childhood, one that was filled with memories of my Dad while at home, on the campaign trails and on vacations.

His passing ensued a reunion of so many people, who we haven’t seen in decades. It’s amazing how news can travel so fast, that friends and relatives all over the world were quick to grasp the news. Those that were unable to fly in, phoned us numerous times, as well as sent representatives to mourn with us.

It is in great amazement to feel the love and generosity of thousands of people whose lives my Dad has touched. Sometimes I ask myself why is it that you only feel so loved and touched by many, when the person they are giving tribute to is already gone?

Of the days of the wake and vigil, people came in droves, never mind that it rained everyday, as if the heavens mourned with us. The municipality put up tents inside our property, as well as the whole stretch of the street where we live. The everyday atmosphere was more of a “fiesta” instead of a wake.

It is undeniable, that my Dad was well loved. During his tenure as a public servant, I know so well that he had helped a lot of his constituents in need. In fact, he died the morning after his big birthday party. At the party, he did what he was known to doing every single July 27, his birthday. He gave away money to a lot of the people who were there that needed such. It has been a tradition for him. He was generous to people in need.

He is finally laid to rest and with him goes the man that will be forever remembered not only as a loving husband and father, but a caring public servant as well. To meet your Creator, all too sudden the morning after your birthday is something. I take it to mean, that God finally thinks my Dad served well, and that it was time for him to rest.

  • It’s always heartwarming to see how many lives a loved one touched…just like your Dad. Your Dad definitely served well and helped a lot of people. How I wish more public servants are like your Dad. Our country will probably be in a better shape if more are like him.

Thank you for sharing the life of your Dad with us. He is indeed a kind and loving man who did not hesitate to give and share with people in needs. That is truly remarkable! He will always be remembered.

  • My heartfelt sympathy for the passing of your dad. I just hope that you’ve recovered from the loss of your beloved dad. Both of my mom and my dad passed away so I know how it feels to lose a loved one. By the way, I have an award for you at http://lisaonline.biz/2008/08/id-like-to-thank-cecil-for-this-kick.html

  • I’m sure he is with our creator because he is a good man. Years will pass and he will be forgotten by some people but we cannot forget a good man and a good father in him. I still miss my dad until now. He was not a public servant like your dad but he had helped a lot of people during his days.
