Document Hunt

I spent my whole afternoon putting together and hunting every single tax document we need for tomorrow’s appointment with our Accountant. I have started sorting papers a few days ago, and this afternoon I was set to finish up, or else the “boss” (my husband, who else) will be disappointed. It wasn’t at all like a walk in the park. This is only a part of the messy mountain of papers I sorted this afternoon.

The supporting docs seem to be increasing in quantity each year. As our Accountant said last year, it is getting more and more complicated every year. Last year, my husband had to sit down with him for about three hours. I can’t stay put that long, as I don’t even understand much of the terminologies such as capital gains, capital loss etc., and I don’t wanna bother thinking about it.  So what I normally do is I leave my husband, then I do some errands and or shop around and he calls me  when it’s time to scribble my signature, which means they’re already done and the tax return document has to be signed.

Oh well, I did what needs to be done, the hard part of putting the docs together. Till the next round…till next year.

eBay On-Hold

I am really disappointed. Just when I thought my journey to reclaiming one closet in the house is finally coming to realization, my husband has put off auctions of his collectibles (mint, graded Sports Cards) on eBay.

We have sold quite a number of Sports Cards the previous months, and it has been good. I was so happy that he has been pulling out these collectibles from the closet so I can take photographs, which I’ve been doing on a staggered basis. It just dawned on me today that, it’s been weeks since the last eBay sale. He has been caught up with work lately, and he simply has no time to write the product descriptions and what not. If I was knowledgeable about Sports Cards I’d probably volunteer to do it, but I have no idea about them at all.

I’m getting frustrated because I have been really looking forward to the day when I finally get this whole closet to myself. This is the second closet in our bedroom; and right now, we are sharing the walk-in closet which is actually big enough for us. I know, it will take years before I can finally fully reclaim it but every single piece that comes out of there gets me closer to my objective.

In the meantime, I will have to wait. I’ve been waiting for eight years anyway, what’s another eight years?

Love Affair With Food

Last night’s dinner was a total surprise for me. I was treated to an all Filipino fare without having to cook. The “foodie” husband of mine went out of his way to bring in Filipino food from Pistahan, one of the Philippine restos in Manhattan(1st Avenue and 14th st.). We’ve been there just once since it opened last year. This proves that my husband is getting more confident each day that he can pick good food no matter how foreign they may be to him. I cook Pinoy food at home in between other cuisines, but every single dish that he brought in were dishes I haven’t prepared myself, not even in my entire lifetime. Remember, I never cooked before I was married. Cooking was totally new to me eight years ago, as I never really cooked when I was single.

I must have been too hungry to dig in that I totally forgot to take pics of the food. We had tinapang bangus with salty egg(smoked boneless milkfish served with tomatoes and salted duck egg), ginataang sari saring gulay (mixed Filipino vegetables cooked in coconut milk), bistek (slices of beef, onions and potatoes cooked in lemon and soy sauce), and of course rice: garlic fried rice.

Frank is never picky with food. He loves Filipino dishes and I wish I can say he loves them all but there’s one dish that he really does not care for: dinuguan(chunks of pork sauteed in pork blood and vinegar). All other dishes he eats them with gusto all the time including the bitter ampalaya(bitter melon). He loves to eat and he is fond of food, what can I say. He remembers every single dish and describes them in full when he’s talking about food in general, not just Pinoy food, I’m so amazed. That’s the reason why he takes care of our weekend meals starting Friday’s dinner through Sunday dinners. No, he doesn’t cook; he brings in or we go out and he plans for all of it.

Ready To File?

Or should I say, have you filed your Tax Return? At this time, we would have filed already. This year, it’s taking us longer to go to our Accountant because the forms have been coming in trickles. To make things even worse, the bad girl in me, every time I get something in the mail, I just slide them in the designated bin without even looking. The husband has been bugging me for a while but I just kept telling him, it seem like we haven’t received everything yet. Till last weekend, when he finally put his foot down and told me, we have to make an appointment with the Accountant and make it for the first weekend of March.

So, I have to push myself to do what I didn’t wanna do all along: sort out all financial documents, receipts and those medical files. The thing is, I have to match what I have already received with the financial institutions that we do business with just to ensure we’re not missing anything. I’m not done yet, nor started this task. This is one task that I wished someone would just do for me; but between the two of us, it has always been me doing this task.  Good thing though, when we finally go to the Accountant, I can be somewhere else and just go back when it’s time to scribble my signature. The husband sits down with the accountant and sort through the intricate details of those documents.

One thing’s for sure, it has to be done lest, the IRS will be knocking on our door.

A Plaque

Incoherent

I can’t seem to think straight the past few days. No, it’s not because of the long weekend; something so important and critical is on the table right now that we need to decide on. So critical, that for the past two nights our dinners seem to have been like being on a meeting over dinner at a Conference Room. It’s zapping my energy, I no longer know how it used to feel when I used to be a Manager at Procter & Gamble and made key  business decisions. It’s been almost eight years since I chucked my business suit in exchange of my jeans and sneakers; I can no longer take  stressful situations like a walk in the park like I used to.

To my fellow bloggers, please bear with me. I will get to the memes soon. To Girlie, Yen, Suzanne and Lynn, I’m sorry but guessing has to continue hehehe. I wish I can say, you’re somehow right, but you’re not. Thanks for taking the time to keep guessing. You’ll know what they are in due time.
