Gift Cards

Call me stupid, but I am one of those that just can’t seem to appreciate gift cards as  present in any occasion.

Why? I know that gift cards are, as they say  more practical than a boxed present.  And I can fully understand these people that regard gift cards as such. I have a different reason though, and in as much as I abhor giving gift cards myself, there is an exception.

I only give gift cards when I don’t really, truly know the person too well. I learned my lesson from a family member when one time, I thought I was being thoughtful by carefully selecting presents for the whole family, and yes, I got a simple”thank you” from one family member but never heard from the rest. To confirm my suspicion, I made sure to check out the presents on a visit to their home and yes, none of those presents were nowhere to be seen. Since then, I made sure to give the whole family gift cards as present on any occasion.

It’s sad though, because aren’t we giving presents to signify that we are thinking of the person and as such, the gift is picked out carefully? Well, as we all know we can’t please everyone, right?
